Who We Are...

The program functions under the guidance of an advisory board of ten men and women from the community; the Executive Director is the Pastor of Saint Theresa Church.  Operations are headed by a full time kitchen manager and a part-time helper.  Volunteers from the community, many of them part-time residents, are the core of the helping hands, working in the kitchen, delivering meals, picking up donations of food and supplies, as well as soliciting grants and organizing fundraisers. Partnering with Maui Community Colleges Culinary Academy, made possible through the Federal Compassion Capital Program, has provided Hale Kau Kau with training of cooks and support for kitchen operations.

Who pays for the program?

A grant from the County of Maui provides part of the salary of the Kitchen Manager.  Occasionally local foundations and organizations award grants in various amounts. Businesses on Maui make donations of food and supplies and equipment.  Among fundraising events are bi-weekly Bread Sales by Hale Kau Kau volunteer bakers, a Golf Tournament and an annual Dinner, Show, and Auction Event. Mainstay for funding, however, is monetary donations from the many generous friends of Hale Kau Kau.
